After New Year, Pongal....Now its writing time

Writing is not my usual hobby. So I write only if there is a real drive in me. Now the drive is back. Coz I hate my lovely blog :-) to be unattended for so many months.

Banging for the first time in this new year. Thai piranthaal vazhi pirakkum really worked with me on several occasions and now it happened again. IT brought me back to my blog.

First of all... A happy happy pongal. Though celebrated for Kathiravan, this time it happened to be for the clouds and rain as the whole Pongal week was rain week. What to do, cooked Pongal under an umbrella.

Yesterday I had my first Classical Guitar class

I got a contact with a young musician who devotes full time to music. And I joined weekend Classical Guitar classes from last Sunday under his mentorship along with a couple of friends from our Tekmusic group.

It was a great experience to learn Classical Guitar as it reveals a true musician feeling. The glad part is that my teacher admits that Maestro is his Maanaseega guru and only because of Him he started pursuing music as career. He gave lot of explanations about how Maestro uses Jazz in his songs and BGMs.

He says that Jazz is a 'alwa' for Maestro but He used only a few Classical guitar numbers in songs. The saddest reason being there were/are few Jazz guitar musicians in India who could play his scores. One of His signature Jazz Guitar style is the famous "Ilaiyanilaa Pozhihirathu'. Guitar pieces in this song are simple and to be frank, in the past, I wondered if was there anything amazing in this song as everything is simple. But the real reason for the mega hit of the song is classical guitaring and amazing Jazz&blues chords progression. Also I came to know that, in His music, if every track(instruments&vocals) is played alone separately it would make no sense at all. Only if they are combined in the form of an orchestration, it would be grand.

Behind 'The Wall'

Read an intersting article on how Pink Floyd came up with the most famous song by them 'Another Brick in the Wall'. Both David Gilmore (Guitars) and Roger Waters (Bass Guitar) take turns to lead as front man and that too in a same song. I had a lot of confusions earlier about 'who sang what line' kinda thing and got it cleared after going through this site.

Pink Floyd being one of the most successful fan following base throughout the world, started resenting fame and success. What they wanted to give was 'Only Pure Music'.

Rest explained in this article.

Maestro Live in Concert

Am writing this after managing only 5 hours of sleep last night. Yes! Maestro Live in Concert lasted till 11:45 pm Indian Standard time from 6:30 pm- nearly 5 hours of Musical Extravaganza held at Chennai Nehru Indoor stadium on 16/10/2005.

Message from the Maestro for the fans: This one for my fans: Ilayaraja

Though astonishing is that all the tickets got sold in all pockets of the city 2 days before the show, more astonishing was that a lot of people who dint book tickets thronged near the gates and tirelessly asking every concert goer whether they had any extra tickets with them.

I managed to get only Rs 250/- ticket 2 days before the program after searching all over the city from Odessey to Adayar Ananda Bavan, from Landmak to Jaya TV office. Every where tickets sold like hot cakes mostly due to Maestro's huge billboards put up through out the city and its lifeline - MTC busses.

Will post a detailed description sometime later after assorting the eye and ear catching details of the concert from my mind.
